Dental ED – October 26th 2011- Dr Warren Roberts
Dentists are confronted every day with patients that do not respond to conventional masticatory and neuro-muscular treatments either because these treatments are ineffective, or their compliance with dental orthotics is poor, or both. Although dentists are the most highly trained injectors of the oral-facial region, they are not typically trained in simple Botox techniques on how to inject the masticatory muscles. Botulinum toxin can reduce as well as relieve the intensity and number of clenching events. In addition Botulinum toxin can lessen the destruction of tooth and TMJ structures as well as reduce discomfort and pain in the associated musculature. Dr. Warren Roberts will discuss the use of Botulinum toxin in the practice of dentistry. In particular, the therapeutic treatment of TMJ disorders as well as the treatment of the aging soft tissue in relation to smile design. Many of these aspects, if addressed prior to the definitive dental aesthetic treatment can dramatically change the final restorative approach.
Course objectives:
1. Learn how to manage TMD syndrome patients with combination therapy including botox to determine the optimal long-term treatment.
2. Learn how muscles of the head and neck may play a role in gingival recession
3. Understand the concepts of treating the oral-facial musculature with Botulinum toxin for the aaesthetic effect on the soft tissues.
4. You will learn how to incorporate Botox as part of your treatment plan whether you elect to perform these treatments or refer them to others; you will be providing state of the art smile design for your patients.
