Dental ED – December 7th 2011 by Dr John Kois
Our knowledge about occlusion has been based on gnathologic principles. These concepts are the basis of a mechanical system with focus on posterior determinants and mutual protection. If it is that simple, why is there so much controversy? Can we predict when functional problems develop or can we always create a therapeutic occlusion? This program will create a focus on three key components in understanding the biology of the system. In addition, it will develop more clarity in understanding the problems and concerns encountered when creating a therapeutic occlusion in the human system.
Upon completion of this presentation, participants should be able to understand:
1 Utilizing rules or formulas to restore everyone is not possible
2 Clinical protocols are often inadequate to diagnose the complexity of the masticatory system
3 Mechanical protocols have biologic consequences
